Section 1. Lecture Purpose and Basic Theory

  • Learning drawing requires new material, not conforming to the same expectations.
    • To know what material to look for can be supplemented by your goal.
  • Individualism can be portrayed by how we draw lines.
  • Shapes are easily created, easily disposed. They are like print statements for testing a composition.
    • Some shapes deliberately stray a little to better be compatible with forms. (Curved cuboid for head)

Section 2. Theory For Expressing Human Body

  • Escape from the rigidity of shapes and uses them as flexible, disposable guides.
    • Practice consistently whatever method works, different shapes may be favored for different angles or skill levels.
  • Basic perspective theory goes a long way, but shape-to-shape interaction is crucial. Every shape must follow a relatively believable perspective.
    • Some rules (The faces exposed relative to the horizon line) are not to be broken
