Section 03. How To Study Anatomy And Info Theory
07. Anatomical Elements Of The Human Body And Proportion
Anatomy adds realism and depth for greater distinction relative to other artists.
- Enough detail to be believable, but too much is a hindrance to progress.
Anatomy is application, not memorization.
Fixed anatomy knowledge hinders dynamic movement representation.
Selective notes
Anatomy is applied selectively. Perhaps store the most relevant details in a reference sheet.
- Names, shapes, muscular elements, related movements(joints) are good to store.
08. Basic Info On Anatomy for Active Study
Suggested Bone theory
Determining the clavicle(collarbone) and iliac crest defines the dynamic of the whole body.
- Ilium and iliac crest inform of pelvis tilt.
Finger Bones
Arched rectangles help us grasp.
Eye theory
Convergence
Eyes converge towards a point. They appear more parallel the further an object
Example
Elliptical side view
Suppose an eyeball is a sphere.
- The eye’s cornea is elliptical and protrudes out the sphere while the pupil is set back. The pupil is contained INWARDS of the sphere and is also elliptical.
- This is relevant when the eye is out of front view.
Example
You can’t tell the cornea’s and pupil’s depth in the front view. (Bottom Right)
(Right) - The pupil is on TOP of the cornea, which gives uncanny valley artificial vibes
Muscle Theory
Muscle-connecting to bones. I think I should revisit this lecture later. Chyan’s simplifications might be better for the arm curves for example.
