TenTen Anatomy Lecture 4 (Torso)
Summary
Go over HW1 mistakes and corrections.
- Be willing to bend the torso and pelvis outside of their original reference. Perspective can be optimized.
Example (Be willing to deviate from your own defined forms)
- Proportions and relation dynamics still have to make sense, however. Do not compromise on either for the sake of harmony.
Form Correctness > Reference "Accuracy"
![]()
- Many mistakes involve lacking exposure of surfaces from the torso or pelvis.
No stacking torso and pelvic boxes
The torso should form a “C” shape, and stack as such.
Feet and Boxes Consider Perspective and Space
The front face seem to have a common vanishing point.
- Corrected the feet to match perspective
Avoid Skewing
The torso does not meet the pelvis guide, even though they are facing the same way.
Reference Accuracy
You can use specific clothing features (belts) as a hint. Just don’t expect to be 100% accurate without analyzing these potential hints. Flat cylinders can add additional depth
Figure Disjoints
A misplaced head or legs can detract from the overall balance of the figure.
Issues related to the torso are because of not considering the torso and pelvis inside one volume at first
Hardbrush Drafting Trick
Quickly summarize a torso in a single stroke. Key shapes are “K” and “C.”
